Mailaccount passwords can't be saved in Outlook 2002 under Vista

Hi there

I bought Windows Vista and installed Office XP (2002) including Outlook
2002. Now, I can't save the passwords for my POP3 accounts anymore, even if
"save password" is checked. Each time i restart Outlook 2002, I have to type
in 15 passwords for my 15 mail accounts ... The problem is known, as far as I
can see searching through the different help boards in the web. Why is
Microsoft not releasing a fix for that ??? Has anyone an idea what to do? The
Microsoft tech notes for this issue are only for XP and not working with
Vista - I tried them all.

Thank you, Matt

Because they have two versions of Outlook that are compatible with Vista.
There's no rule that says that all previous versions of an application must
work in any future operating system environment. Consider how many DOS
programs stopped working in WIndows XP.

That is a known compatibility issue between Outlook 2002/XP and Windows
Vista that won't be fixed as Outlook 2002/XP is out of mainstream support.

Thanks for the reference to my site but that won't work for Outlook 2002/XP
on Vista. The Protected Storage Provider reg key is not supported in Windows
Vista which results in this behavior as Outlook 2002/XP relied on it.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your answer - no, there's no rule, but maybe ethics? Office XP is
from 2002 and still supported by updates. Nobody talks about the time between
DOS and XP, but a time span between Office XP and Office for vista is
definitely not too long for a fix.
First you get a new operating system and then you have to get a new Office
bundle or a standalone application for about the same price. Thank you very
much ...

"Office XP is from 2002 and still supported by updates."
Actually it was released in May 2001. It has been out of mainstream support
since July 11, 2006 meaning it has been fully supported for over 5 years.
The only fixes that will be released are security updates.
