Mail Viewing Issues

Windows Server 2003
Exhange Server 2003
Microsoft Outlook 2003 & 2007

Quick Background -
I work in a small school and we don't have a full-time system
administrator - I have a little experience with windows servers, some
with Lotus Notes, and I know how to plug in network cables - so by
default, I have become the administrator.

Our Problem -
We are experiencing problems where the body of the email appears to be
empty or blank when reading through the outlook client - however - if
you connect to the exchange server using the web client, the message
can be read normally. Also - in the outlook client - with autopreview
on - you can read whatever portion of the message that autopreview
tries to display - so it seems clear that the content is there.

I might also add that this is not all emails - in fact - it's only a
very small portion of them - and I haven't been able to determine a
pattern as of yet.

Here's what I have put together so far....

1) I have seen a case where the same email was sent to 2 people, and
one experienced this problem but the other did not.

2) Once a recipient has received a "faulty" email from a sender - then
any time that sender sends an email to that recipient,it will be also
be faulty.

3) This only happens with email that comes from outside our exchange
server community - all internal correspondence has been fine - so far.

4) The Exchange server has not been update or reconfigured - we did
however change from using the Microsoft ISA firewall service to a new
hardware firewall. However - since the email can be read from the web
client - it's clear it is getting past the firewall intact. That plus
the fact that 2 clients can recieve the same email and one can read it
- but the other can not.

Any ideas what could be causing this type of problem. I anxiously
await any response.

Thank you VERY much.

Are you using an antivirus scanner on the desktop? Is it scanning inbound
email? Does the message show I you hit forward?

Ok - I wanted to test to make sure of the results. I disabled
anything with the antivirus that had to do with email scanning. I then
waited to see if I continued to get "blank" emails. I did. I also
discovered another curiosity....

As I mentioned originally - I work in a school. We have a form on our
website that contains a Brain Teaser" that the kids try to answer. It
is a very simple form - they fill in the blanks and hit the submit
button. The website sends the results as an email.

The majority of the emails make it fine - but there are some that come
in "blank". we had those children try and submit their answers
again... they all came in "BlanK" again... We did this 2 more times
with the same children and got the same result.

So - it sounds like some sort of filter that is somehow flagging
certain people's email.... mind you - all of these came from the same
"sender" just the child's name in a field was different.

We have another instance where a person's email will arrive fine one
time and blank the next. Same sender from the same computer.

Still completely buffaloed..... and now it's making me look bad. What
else can I look for..???

Thanks
Ray
