mail:to acting very strangely

I am running Vista Home Premium as it came out of the box, including the
mail replacement for Outlook Express. That seems to be working fine.
However, when I click on a mail:to link in a webpage, IE7 hesitates for a
while and then opens multiple (40+) pages that have the mailto info in the
header. I have to wait until it has spawned these forty-odd pages and then
go and close them one by one if I have forgotten this fault and mistakenly
clicked a mail:to link. Very annoying. Anyone else come across this?
Oh, there is an error message invlved that says the mail client has not been
configured correctly.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Go to Control Panel | Default Programs and set WinMail as default again and
that should fix it.
