Mail Merge: Saving Changes to 'Mail Recipients List'

G

Gt

After using Wordpro for many years I am just trying Word 2003 Mail Merge for
the first time by creating a new address list via the Mail Merge task pane.

I've had to change the column headings, and the column order and this is
all Ok via the 'Edit' the 'Customise' screens.

But, on returning to the actual 'Mail Merge Recipients' screen ...although
the headings are correct, they do not appear in the correct order. They can
be moved individually but the changes are lost as soon as the screen is
closed.

Is there any way of saving changes made at the 'edit' or 'customise' stages?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what determines the order in the Mail Merge Recipients screen,
but it seems pretty random. I create all my merges manually, and I notice
that, although my mail merge data source is an Excel file, the MMR screen
does not replicate the order of the fields in Excel. Except for convenience
in viewing them, this doesn't really make any difference. Note, BTW, that
you can maximize the dialog by double-clicking on the title bar; this will
permit you to see more of the fields and records.

Many thanks for that Suzanne. That will save me loads of time searching for
an answer that isn't there! Thanks too for the tip about double clicking the
title bar.Much appreciated

I confess I'd only recently noticed this, and it puzzled me, too, but it's
one those sort of <shrug> experiences where you figure that if the merge is
working the way you want it to, you're better off not messing with it!
