mail and fax in control panel won't work

Please help--On my new Dell laptop computer withVista,Premium: in control
panel (and only in control panel), I cannot get fax and mail to open. I get
an error mesage that tells me I have insufficient memory and to close some
windows. I've got 2G Ram and have over 100gb free on the internal hard
drive, and it happens when I have nothing but startup programs active, so
something must be screwy.

I did use an external "my book" backup drive for my old computer as it was
dying, and then have > used it in the new computer, where I think it created
an imaginary memory for the new computer in the internal hard drive by
creating a second internal drive of ~10gb and filling it halfway), but i
don't see how this could be creating the problem in opening the fax/mail in
control panel.

I CAN reach and use windows mail without any problem; it's just that I
cannot open up the control panel icon for it. I really would appreciate your
help

Windows Mail does not have a Control Panel icon. That must have been put
there by some other program such as Outlook.

That's interesting, Frank. I do not have Outlook installed, but I did try
and failed to install Windows Professional 97, which I had had on a previous
computer (and did successfully install on a 2002 computer), but the program
told me that vbe.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.
Could that have caused the icon for mail and fax to appear in the control
panel? Is there some way I can get the old program to work, or is Microsoft
just trying to get me to pay once again for something i already paid for?

Thanks, Les

I have no idea what Windows Professional 97 is unless you mean Office
Professional 97, which includes Outlook97 and would put that there.

yes, that's correct--Office--could that be the culprit? Is there a way to
get it to un or to at least get it out of contol panel?

Uninstalling Outlook might get it out, but what difference does it make?
