Mafia and Black Hawk Down won't start

I have installed both of these games (Mafia and Black
Hawk down) and each time I install them they will work
until I restart the computer. Once I have restarted, the
games just won't work. I double click on the icon or
program and nothing happens. The computer doesn't even
think about it. I reinsert the cd to open up autoplay
and press the button to start the game, and again nothing
happens. Multiplayer on Blackhawk down will start, but
nothing else.
I've had this problem a few times, and i was wondering if
anyone else has had it. What is the matter, and is there
anyway to fix it? Thanks in advance

when you restart are you logging in with the same account? A game not
responding like that sounds like you are trying to launch them in a
Non-Admin account. Just a hunch.

Hmm. Well Black Hawk down is a D3D game and Mafia is OpenGl. Are any other
programs not launching? Do you have the latest video drivers. Seems very
strange the games run fine before you reboot. Have you tried running the D3D
tests in dxdiag when the games aren't launching. Since Mafia is openGL I
doubt that is the problem, but worth a try. LEt me know if you need any
instruction on how to do that. Also check what programs are running in task
manager, maybe its possible an antivirus program or somehting is stopping
these programs from launching...

Yes I am logging on under the same account, since I am
using XP home edition, sorry I didn't specify.
