I am trying to fix my file extension.I can't open anything on my desktop. I
found the way to fix the problem, but it says I need to copy things to an
editor like Notepad and then save the file with a .REG file extension. Copy
the file to the misbehaving Vista machine. I have no idea what a misbehaving
Vista machine is!!!

Hi Angie,

Here are the steps to create and run a registry change from text.

Left click and drag over the text that you want to save so that it is all
highlighted. Release and hit ctrl+c to copy.

Now click start and type notepad, hit <enter> to open the text editor.

Click edit/paste or hit ctrl+v to paste what you previously highlighted.

Click file/'save as'. In the top line of the resulting dialog, type
'desktop'. In the file type line, switch it to 'all files'. In the file name
field type any random name you want followed by .reg, for example fix.reg.

Click save. Close all open windows so that you can see the desktop.

Right click the file you just saved and choose merge. Follow the prompts to
allow the system registry to be changed.

You may need to reboot to complete the change.
