Machine won't switch on, sometimes

Hi,
got a strange one here. I have a 2nd machine which had 2 HDs in close
together. There is an input fan and an output fan, but given that its
been pretty warm here for the last few days the inside of the machine
was getting pretty warm/hot when I touched any metal. Then one of the
HDs, which is a Fujitsu 6.4Gb and about 6/7 years old started to unplug
itself? That was according to win2k, and sure enough when I looked in
explorer that drive was no longer shown.
I replaced that and the other 8.4Gb drive with a brand new Maxtor 80GB
drive, and re installed my OS etc. Then when I switched the machine off
to do something inside the case, it wouldn't switch back on again for
some time. I don't know why, except I unplugged and re plugged cables
back in checked the power supply which is ok. This is an old ATX 250W
UCC or something like that which I pulled out of storage and swapped
with an un-named 230W supply. I did manage to get it powred back up
again but its just done the same thing again; it won't switch back on, yet.

Any ideas please

TRy a different mains lead for a start. Aside from that, ATX PSUs are
dirt cheap so it may be worth investing in a new one.

We are a computer dealer and have seen that happen before with
a flaky power supply or motherboard. Replacing the power supply
isn't too expensive and is easier to do than the motherboard.

thanks, it does seem more a power supply problem than motherboard, and I
was surprised that this PSU is a know working one, well it was and it
tests out ok with a PSU tester I have. I have ordered a new one now.
Thanks
