Machine does not start with two sound cards

I have installed two sound cards in my machine. The day I installed the
second sound card it worked fine, now when I try to start my PC up it just
hangs after the boot screen and then restarts. I can go into safe mode and
disable the new card and the machine boots fine. In the event viewer theres
errors but I am guessing that those are because the machine couldn't start in
normal mode, EVENT ID:7026 & 7001.

I have downloaded drivers for the new card but this still does not help.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this working.

The sound cards installed are: Soundmax(onboard) and the new one is a CMedia
S5000 (CMI8738) card

I have checked EVENTID.net ... it does not tell me much.

Quite a few of the system services that ar set to automatically start, don't
eg. Netbios, DNS, and many other services.

What I can't understand is that when the card was installed on the the
machine worked fine and during the whole weekend. It only gave me trouble
yesterday.

I am planning to re-install XP on a new hard drive with the new sound card
plugged in,this is for testing, hoping this will work.

Can't see how this is even related. You must have multiple issues going on.

What did you install/apply in the interim?

New sound card as in singular? And a new hard drive? If so, why not try
one of the two you already own?

Note: Take the time to understand what you are doing, the facts and
procedures that come with the extra's, patience and knowledge to comprehend
them and the endurance to troubleshoot along the way. Good luck!
