You could use System Restore to return the machine to a point
before the current problems started. For further advice you should
provide full details on the "MACHINE CHECK: REGS" error so
that potential respondents know what this is about.

The good thing about the Machine Check error is that the information
dump from the blue screen is really helpful at determining the cause,
and it is usually hardware related to the motherboard or to a hang in
some specific piece of hardware. About the only thing to do is to put
the motherboard back into a very basic condition, re-set its bios to
the default (or factory) settings and hope for the best.

Hi,
Please try to double click the Error message and copy and paste the exact
wording in your next message/post.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

<Example for the event>
Source: Application Popup
Type: Information
Event ID: 26

Description:
Application popup: : Machine Check: Regs

Data: (Bytes)

This can happen by a running service that the driver is uninstalled like the
true Vector for the ZA.
The least try to memorise it if you could.
By the looks of it you gone manually and deleted something belong to the
system , which upsetting windows on the Boot up when try to read the
bootloader folders.

you could do a repair install, and then test.

the pc wont boot in either normal or safe mode.
i didnt find anything in the dr watson file or the dump file just the event
viewer - which i cant view any more.
the hardware is ok as i have 3 OSs installed and its only the XP partition
that wont boot.
when rebooting from uninstalling zone alarm is when the problem occurred.
i didnt get a BSOD error, just a hung system.
i have tried to repair the system several times - including a repair install
unsuccessfully.

any ideas on how to fix this error to make the pc boot??
thanks

Exactly how was ZoneAlarm removed? And what are the other two OS's
and were the three OS's in their own hard drives? And for the 3
systems, what boot manager is being used, e.g., XP's boot.ini file
or something else?

Well, a clean install is your only option then, but if you have Data on this
partition, you hook this HDD to another NT system as Slave with USB enclosure
and Rescue your Data then perform a clean install to the Operating system

i used zone alarms uninstaller as i usually do.
on the hdd that xp is on i also have gentoo linux and i am using grub to
boot xps boot file -
title winxp
rootnoverify (hd0.0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
it will load the xp boot file (f5 to see this screen under normal
conditions)... i select xp or press f8 if i want to select safe mode or last
known good

only the os and primary apps are installed on the partition.
if i can at least boot to safe mode again then i can grab what i need and do
a clean install.
thanks
