Crazy idea ? maybe .. anyone knowledgeable in this area?

Now that Apple or Mac is using the "Intel cor2duo" chips on their systems.

It seems to me that any newer motherboard can now be optioned to run the mac
OSx operating system?

Will this work?
Can you now buy or build a laptop of the PC type and turn it into a Mac by
setting up a Unix partition and installing the OSx (Tiger) OS?

Vista and all the problems with it has me thinking!
mmmmm a Mac OSX on any Cor2Duo system ?????

Thanks for your reply in advance

Apple will not license OSX except with a purchase of their machine. So, no,
you can't.

Thanks for you fast reply
I never thought of that aspect and was aiming my question towards the
hardware issues if any.

Please excuse my ignorance ...
So I can't just purchase a OSX DVD online for $79.00 and install it?
Am I not paying for the license when I purchase the OS...???
Or am I missing something else?

Thanks
Tony

You won't get the necessary drivers, either, unless your hardware is
literally identical to that used by the Mac.

Apple tends to like to control what it's OS is installed on. Notice their
isn't any Mac clones out there. You either buy an Apple computer or you don't
run their OS. More than likely, they have the software set to look at the
hardware and look at the system bios and such and tell it not to install if
it doesn't match and exact string or something to that effect.

Sure you can buy copy of the software and own a license in that sense, and
you can try to install it on any system you wish. But unless you have a
means of tricking the OS installer (and OS) it's going to tell you, you
don't have the correct system\hardware.

But here is an article that talks about installing a MAC OS on a PC, using
an emulator

Not legally anyways.

If you look around the net there are people who have managed to port the OSX
specific binaries to the darwin core.

It works fairly well, but still has some work to go before it's really fully
usable.

Of course, as stated earlier, it's not quite legal.
