Mac Disconnect

A

Adam Raff

Good Day,

We are running a windows 2003 SP1 server with two macs running 10.4+ which
connect to the network.

They are setup on a workgroup and they log in via the share using there
login name and password.

We are also using Dave which seemed to simplify the process.

We have found that the server disconnects the Macs after some time of none
use but it is random as it could be one hour or three hours or it will not
disconnect at all with the following event

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MACSRV
Event Category: None
Event ID: 12061
Date: 10/24/2006
Time: 6:01:41 PM
User: N/A

Description:
Session from user "Ali" was timed out and disconnected by the server. The IP
address of the Macintosh workstation is in the data.

My question,

Is there a setting in windows that after a time the server will disconnect
the user after some time. If so what and where is this setting.

Hi Adam!

Not a setting that I recall but I do recall this problem occurring if
the Mac were set to go to sleep. When asleep the Mac's session no longer
kept the connection alive and the server would disconnect the session
after a period of time. The Classic environment, which can run on top of
Mac OS X, can also be set to sleep or not sleep. If you're running
Classic be sure this is set to not sleep as well.

Hope this helps! bill
