MAC adress filter

I'm adding security to a new home network one step at a time. I've read
about MAC address filtering. I have a laptop and a desktop connected through
a wireless D-Link 524 router. When I access the routers configuration
utility, under MAC filtering, I can select the option:

Only allow computers with MAC addresses listed below to address the network.

Then it gives a NAME field, which references the MAC filter-it's now blank;
then, there's a field for one MAC address which is now blank;
then there's a field labeled "DHCP Client", and both of my computers and
their MAC addresses are listed.

My question is: What goes in the blank MAC address field? Do I need to put
anything there at all, or just click on the filter enable button, and be ok?
Thanks, ED

Router firmware is all slightly differnt, but usually
there is a tab for "mac cloning" which is you input the
mac address of one computer so it "clones" one of the
computers (alot of isp's need to recieve a mac address
when your logging into there dhcp server) the other tab
is for mac security, either allowing only those mac
addresses listed or disallowing certain mac addresses.
The dhcp tab is merely the routers leasing tempory IP
addresses to your local networked pc's. once again all
router firmware is slightly differnt in how it's setup, I
would recommend calling D-Link tech support for some
help. I have used and configured Linksys and Netgear and
the tech support from both these companies has been
pretty good. also try the D-Link website for help files
and see try the knowledge base which is very helpful.
