lsass.exe

When starting Windows XP, I get an error message
saying "lsass.exe - when trying to update password..."
then it proceeds to reboot. I try starting up in safe
mode and last known good configuration, and I still get
the same message with an automatic reboot. Any
suggestions?

Try a repair install. Sometimes this works. I must tell you that I've
always had to do a full, clean install (format drive, install Windows
and drivers, reinstall programs, restore data from backup), but you
might get lucky. :) Here are links to information about both types of
installs:

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try tomorrow and see
