LSASS.EXE System Error - The endpoint format is invalid

Has a solution/cause to this problem been found? I’ve read other posts on this subject that suggest either the Sasser virus or the KB835732 patch, but neither seems to be the issue in my case.

My friends’s PC has suddenly started getting this error message on boot-up. When he clicked “OKâ€, the PC would re-boot and go through the same cycle repeatedly. I couldn’t get it into Safe Mode (same error), but I was able to get in using the “Last known working configuration†option. Then it seemed to be fine, except the display is all screwed up. It looks like Safe mode (it isn’t) with a very low resolution and color quality. Going into display properties shows no other options to select. I’m guessing I’m going to have to reinstall the video drivers. Other than that, the PC appears to be working okay now. But I’m not comfortable that the problem’s been solved and won’t return.

A virus scan showed no problems and all Windows updates/patches have been applied. Any other ideas/suggestions? All thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
