loud noise from back of tower

ok i need someones help here. on the back of the tower
for my computer there is a loud noise and it wont stop. i
started the computer up this morning and it has been
making this sound all day. im thinking that there is
something wrong with the fan? but how am i supposed to
find that out. plz help with some information thank you

Sounds like the power supply fan. Best solution is to replace the power
supply. Possibly can be fixed by gaining access to the fan (maybe opening up
the power supply), lifting the little paper sticker on the back of the fan
and applying A SINGLE DROP of 3 in 1 oil to the fan, then replace the little
paper sticker.

This probably isn't the most appropriate forum for your question as
it's nothing to do with Windows 2000, but ....
im thinking that there is

That is almost certainly true. You could try powering down the PC,
blocking the fan with something NON-METALLIC and turning it back on
again.

If it's the fan causing the noise it should start again when you
remove the obstruction, allowing the fan to start spinning.

Replacement of the fan will probably involve fitting a new power
supply, although someone with suitable electronic experience will be
able to change the fan itself. If the machine is still under warranty
you should contact the supplier for advice.
