Lost regedit32.exe

Hazen Woods

Need to edit registry and when enter regedit32 on command
line get message can't find. Search shows regedit32.exe
is not present. How can I get it back? Running Win2000
Pro SP2 and have CD with SP4. I have corrupt
VirtualDeviceDrivers entry and want to fix based on MKB
Article Q254914. I have regedit.exe, but am not sure how
to use same. Newbie to things Windows, but know how to
follow directions. Can someone point me to solution to my
problem?

TIA,

ACK! Do you know how many times I've typed it that way?
finally I gave up on myself and constructed a regedit32
executable that called regedt32... grin

That's because the file is named "REGEDT32.EXE".

Hi Hazen,
The easyest way to regain the regedit file is, First
back up all of your files so just in case you may have to
do a complete re install. Then put your copy of windows
in and do a repair. that will have re installed all the
missing files. the worse thing you will have to do is re
download your up dates and put the files in that you just
backed up. And before you get into the registry have
someone with you to show you what to do. That is one good
way to crash your system.

Hi Hazen - If you're really missing regedt32.exe (and didn't just misspell
it - it doesn't have an 'i'), then you can copy regedt32.ex_ from the i386
folder on your CD to a convenient folder and then expand it in a CMD window
at that folder (expand regedt32.ex_ regedt32.exe) and then move it into
%systemroot%\System32 and %systemroot%\System32\dllcache. If you do have
it, note the following about fixing this error:

See here and do EXACTLY what it says: Virtual Device Driver Error Message
in 16-Bit MS-DOS Subsystem
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q254914 You MUST
have Admin privileges and you MUST use regedt32 (not regedit) in order to
set the REG_MULTI_SZ key and value needded.

Greetings --

That would be because there should be no such file on a Win2K
machine. There is, however, both "Regedit.exe" and "Regedt32.exe."

Greetings --

Seems like an awful lot of work just to fix a spelling error. ;-}
