Lost recovery disk big problems!!!

I was restoring my lap top to an earlier day becouse of problems.
to make a long story short windows will not boot. I get error message saying
that windows failed to start prperlyand options on how I would like to start
windows. Safe mode ect.... every option I choose give the same resault. a
dark screen!!!! and the mouse arrow. Thats it.I did something once that gave
me the message that file <windowsroot>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is either
missing or corrupted.
I have lost recovery disk, but have the product key for windows. can I
download onto disk from microsoft what is needed for a windows repair?

A Recovery disc comes from the computer manufacturer not Microsoft; so you
will have to contact the company that made the laptop.

Yes, thank you Jerry. But I need an xp disk to do repair, does microsoft let
you download xp for repair?I was hoping not to have to don full recovery and
loose all information.
