Somehow I deleted a picture off the harddrive, but it wound up on my desktop
background. I can't find it running searches and have no idea how to save
it. Can somebody please help!!

From one dummy to another... : - )
I don't know the "correct" way to do it, but one solution would be to take a
screen capture, or PrintScreen, and paste it into a graphics program. Paint
should work!

Thanks!! I'll give it a try. I may have messed up even worse. I tried to
save it through "modified theme" and it took it off my background. Now it
comes up VERY briefly when I start up the computer or when I log off....

Try the following folders, you may find the image.

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Also try your Recycle Bin

Thanks, but no such luck. I tried the recycle bin first and that was no
good. It's strange that the picture is here somewhere, but even with several
searches I can't find it and now it won't come up on my desktop background
even though it flashes up when I log on or off.

I also wound up with this photo in a "bitmap image". Any ideas how to
restore it??
==============================
If you have a copy of the picture in the
..bmp format...that would probably be
the one that you are seeing as a back-
ground.

Any image editing software (even MS
Paint) can be used to convert the file to
a different format. Just open the .bmp
in your editing program and go to...File /
Save As...choose the new format.

Ok, so I think you meant to save it as a JPEG image. I tried every one and
STILL no luck!! But you're my hero for trying!! This photo is black and it
says bitmap image. I don't know why the jpeg wouldn't work!!
