Lost password in Outlook 2002 - Help!

I run Win 2000 with Outlook 2002. I suspect recently I was hijacked and my
outlook.pst file password was set. My system crashed and I've setup a new
disk with Outlook, copied in my old .pst file and tried to open it. It nows
asks me for a password, which of course I don't know.

I tried pst19upg and the .psx file is created, but when I run the -i option
on the .psx file I get:

Failed importing PROPERTY 36E41102 <scode: 80040600>
Failed importing PROPERTY LIST
Failed importing FOLDER 0x00000122
Program terminated in error <80040600>

Of course I can buy a program to help strip this password out, but I'd had
to spend the money only to have it give me the same results. Does anyone have
a suggestion? My whole business is in this .pst file and although I have a
several month-old copy of it, I'd sure like to get this back.

Thanks Milly. Clearly I'm new to this. Didn't know about cross-posting. Don't
know how to do that. Anyway, I guess I'm just...

This is a sign that whatever process you used to copy the PST has corrupted
that PST and rendered it unusable.

Describe all the steps you used to create the PST copy and how you "copied
it in" to the new Outlook instance. Do you have access to the original PST
from before you copied it?

Yes, I have the original saved off in one or two places. Here's what I ran:

C:\>pst19upg -x pwd.pst
Exporting: pwd.pst (version 19)
to: pwd.psx
[±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±.]
Exported 87 folders and 2673 messages in 1 minute 26 seconds

C:\>pst19upg -i pwd.psx
Importing: pwd.pst (version 19)
from: pwd.psx
(Renamed existing file pwd.pst to pwd.bak)
[.....10.....20.....30.....40.....50.....60.....70.....80.....90.....]
Failed importing PROPERTY 36E41102 (scode: 80040600)
Failed importing PROPERTY LIST
Failed importing FOLDER 0x00000122
Program terminated in error (80040600)

I can run this again using a different copy. Do you think my original pst is
corrupt?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I ran copy 'n paste on my outlook.pst file to a separate folder and then ran
the script. I am trying to open this in Outlook when I get the "Enter
personal folders password" message.

So I copied it over and ran it again with same results. I also ran this on a
usable archive and got the same results. I then ran it with -k and -v3 and
pipped it to a text file, but the output doesn't tell me much. Looking at the
-i option I see it quit almost immediately. I ran the same options with the
-i option and got this:

If, in Outlook, you cannot use File>Open>Outlook Data File and open any of
the PSTs, then I'd say, yes, they're corrupt. If the data is important
enough, then paying one of the Office Recovery companies will be a small
price to pay. Only you, however, can decide on that worth.

Thanks for your help Brian. I think I'll take my losses and move on. I'll
recover most of what I lost from other sources I guess...
