Lost networking

I am trying to figure out why a computer has lost it's
network connection. The NIC shows up in Device Manager
without errors and has also been replaced with a new card
with the same results. I cannot ping to an IP address or
by name.

I have removed all Spyware with Ad-Aware and run
winsockfix.exe but still nothing.

This machine is connected to a broadband connection with
only default settings. Running Windows 2000 Professional.

My first guess.......I'd say it's set up for DHCP and not able to contact
a DHCP server.
