Lost network driver after running windows update

I lost my network connection on a w2k pro machine.
Something about the update does not agree with simple
network cards and drivers on ASROCK motherboards. I did
an SP3 to SP4 update and several security updates. On
another machine I did only the SP4 update. It is working
fine. I think the security updates are what crapped on my
system.

My first attempt to solve the problem on lost network
connections was to trouble shoot my hardware. I
discovered that the communciations driver was not
working. I attempted to reinstall. This failed.

Now I am going to do a operating system re-install
without f-disking.

Sounds like you may have installed driver updates from Windows Update...I
never recommend that.
communications driver= ? NIC? Remove it, reinstall it.
