Lost my sound to videos, etc. Still have it for the "Windows Chime".

The control panel sounds show that no audio device under audio tab, the
other tabs are grayed out mostly.

I use Media Player, error msg says there is no audio device on PC, I used to
hear sounds a few hours ago.

any suggestions?

tks all

I use XP Home Edit Serv p 2

There are a few things to try,

1. If you have an onboard sound card then lookup the manufacturer of your
motherboard and find there website and download audio drivers that match your
motherboard.

If you have a sound card then in a PCI slot on your motherboard then lookup
the manufacturer of the sound card and find there website and download audio
drivers that match your sound card.

2. If you aren't getting sound but you can watch videos, then another thing
to try is to install audio codecs. Here is a link for a free XP codecs pack
which should fix the problem if point 1 doesn't help.
