'Lost' my CDROM driver

D

Dan McLean

I have been trying to install an Ministry of Sound MP3 player on my PC and
somehow seem to have damaged my CDROM drivers. When I look up the CDROM
using my computer it does not appear to be connected, it shows the normal
Floppy and hard drives but no CDROM drive. When I look up the hardware
installed under System/hardware etc using Device manager there is a yellow
exclamation mark against the CDROM and I get the message "The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I have tried the Trouble-shooter several
times, which suggest I uninstall and re-install the drivers but that does
nor work. When I try the Add hardware wizard I get the same error message
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Because I cannot use the CDROM device I
cannot re-install the drivers from my Windows XP CD. Can anyone suggest a
way out of this hole I am digging myself into please ?

THANKS, Dan McLean.

Thanks Rick, I tried that registry patch but it made no difference, I have
also tried disconnecting my CDROM drive and re-installing the driver but it
looks as though my registry is so badly damaged that I will have to format
my hard disk and re-install Windows again. Have a Happy Easter, Dan
