Lost my Calendar

I am running Outlook 2002. I’ve lost my Calendar, but I’m convinced it’s
somewhere on my computer. Yesterday when I powered up and tried to run
Outlook, I got a dialog box saying: “The location messages are delivered to
has changed for this user profile. To complete this operation, you may need
to copy the contents of the old Outlook folders to the new Outlook folders.
For info about how to complete the change of your mail delivery location, see
MS Help. Some of the shortcuts on the Outlook Bar may no longer work. Do
you want Outlook to recreate your shortcuts? All shortcuts you have created
will be removed.†Of course I didn’t have a clue as to what this meant; upon
consideration, I thought it was saying that my shortcuts would be recreated
if I clicked “yesâ€. So I clicked Yes. I was wrong, and all my shortcuts
(about 35) were gone, including some Contacts folders, all mail folders, etc.
Anyway, no problem, I just spent some time re creating the shortcuts, and
everything was there, except for my calendar. I have 2 Personal Folders
(don’t ask why, I don’t know how the extra one got there). I tried the
Calendar on both but neither of them has my appointments that were previously
there. I went into backup and it seems my backup is not picking up my
Calendar. Do you have a clue as to how I can find my Calendar? Do you know
why I would get such a dialog box, saying the location for my messages has
changed (going to MS Help in Outlook is useless)? And do you know why my
backup doesn’t pickup Calendar if it is picking up Outlook.pst? Thank you
for your help.

Sounds like your profile was corrupted - create a new one and configure it to use your default .pst file.

It should if you re-use your .pst file that has the calendar. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles->New. After you create it, you can point it to your .pst file to re-use it.

I'm afraid. My concern is that if I create a new profile, will all my email
start going there? Will I lose anything in the old profile, or, what changed
will happen to the old profile. Once I create a new profile and point it to
my .pst file (and where can I find that?) and find my calendar, then can I
delete the new profile?

No, please use F1 and read about profiles before you being. You will keep all of your current stuff when you point the profile to use your current .pst file. However, I would certainly recommend locating all ..pst files on your computer to see which one is actually the most current one and make it the default.

Sorry, this apparantly is beyond me. I used F1, and entered "profiles"; the
only thing that came up was "create a speech recognition profile". Then I
selected more by going to the web--same thing, only speech recognition.
Where can I read about profiles?

(sigh) I'm afraid to do this, because I'm afraid that if I do, it will
somehow change a bunch of settings or configurations or whatever and I will
lose what I now have; to lose only the Calendar isn't such a big deal,
because although I'd like to have it, I can just reconstruct it and miss a
drs appt or 2, (or references to old ones!) So I thought I'd wait for my
little guru to come yesterday, but he cancelled. Meanwhile, I started
thinking that maybe your suggestion of a corrupted profile is not the
problem, inasmuch as all my other Outlook folders were still there. Any
other ideas, or are you pretty sure that if I follow your instructions I'll
find my old Calendar? Meanwhile, I don't want to do a backup in case it
erases my old Calendar, which is somewhere, hopefully. If I backup, would
that Calendar still be there, somewhere? Thanks for your help.

Create a new e-mail profile
An e-mail profile is made up of e-mail accounts, data files, and information about where your e-mail is stored. Profiles in Microsoft Office Outlook are similar to identities in Outlook Express.

1.. In Microsoft Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
2.. Do one of the following:
a.. Windows Vista Click User Accounts, and then click Mail.
Note In Classic view, double-click Mail.

b.. Microsoft Windows XP Click User Accounts, and then click Mail.
Note In Classic view, double-click Mail.

The Mail icon won't appear unless you have Outlook installed and have run the program at least once.

The Mail Setup dialog box opens.

3.. Click Show Profiles.
4.. Click Add.
5.. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.

6.. Add an e-mail account to use in your profile by following the directions on your screen.

For sure, I agree (although I can still do all the stuff that paralysis
doesn't affect!). Meanwhile, while I wait for my guru to hold my hand, will
backing up wipe out my calendar, in the event it's still somewhere, or should
I hold off backing up? Also, do you still think that "profile corruption" is
the problem, inasmuch as nothing else was lost (see my previous reply of
9/6). Thanks a lot...

Milly, I found it!! I last backed up on 8-22. I didn’t want to backup since
then because I was afraid it would be overwritten and then I would never find
my lost calendar. Also I didn’t want to Import that .pst file from 8-22 into
my Outlook folder as that would mean that all the stuff I had deleted since
8-22 would be put back (and I had been deleting for an hour/day.) So, I
renamed the .pst file in the backup folder as mail 8-22.pst; then, I exported
all 3 existing Personal Folders and the Archive Folder to the Backup/Outlook
location on G. Then, I created a new profile (Start, Control Panel, Mail,
Show Profile, Add—I named it Outlook 3 and gave my email address, along with
the proper password for that email address.) Then I checked Prompt for a
Profile to be used, when starting MS Outlook, so that I could select that
profile when Outlook opens. Then I imported the 8-22-07 backup .pst from
Backup/Outlook folder on G to the new profile in Outlook. This took about 15
minutes. When it was done, all of my folders including emails from 8-22
were in there, and we saw a calendar entitled “Mary’s Calendarâ€. Voila!!
Then, I exported that calendar only back to the Backup/Outlook folder. Then,
I exported that over to the 1st Personal Folder in the Microsoft Outlook
Internet Settings profile, which is my profile, the one I’ve always been
using (don’t ask how it ever got such a goofy name). Then I went to Start,
Control Panel, Mail and changed the check to Always Use this Profile,
selecting Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings profile. I then opened
Outlook, View, Folder List and there was Mary’s Calendar in the 1st Personal
Folder!! Somehow, a lot of other stuff was too, which one would think was
impossible, but anyway, I had my old calendar. Then, I created a shortcut on
the Outlook shortcut bar and had all the info from my old calendar, and
transferred all the info that I had been putting on the new calendar onto it,
then eliminated that calendar. Also, deleted the new Outlook 3 profile, with
all it’s Contacts, Calendars, emails etc. I was nervous the whole time, but
it made sense, so I just kept on…………….thanks for your help.
