** lost keyboard when logging in **

Mike Davis

I ran a spyware removal program on an windows xp pro
machine and after completing the system scan and removal
the software asked to reboot the computer. Now when I
reboot and get to the login screen I click on the user
name to login and as soon as I hit any key (to enter the
password) on the keyboard I loose both my mouse and my
keyboard making it impossible to login.

I have tried rebooting in safe mode. Changing keyboards
and mice. I also tried booting from last knowing working
configuration too. All of this makes no difference.

Can anyone shead some light on what the problem is and
what I should try to fix this?

Thank you!

Mike, first thing I would do is put the drive in another computer as a
slave drive. Copy the data from the drive so you don't loose it. After
that there are a couple of things to try, though I can't say anyone
would work. One would be trying to delete the keyboard and mouse
drivers using the recovery console. Another would be a repair install,
and lastly a clean install.

Another option is to use a bootable CD created from Bart's PE Builder.
That has some tools on it that will assist in getting at the files and
maybe you could remove/replace the keyboard/mouse drivers from there. I
don't know if the keyboard will work once you boot it though.

Thank you for your help. I tried to do fix install from the windows xp disc
and everything went smoothly until i got to the part where you have to enter
the cd key. As soon as i hit one key I lost the mouse and keyboard again.
This is making me pretty upset. Maybe I will try barts pe builder...

thanks again

Hey Rock,

When you say delete the mouse and keyboard drivers... del the files that are
in windows/system ?

One other crazy thing when xp is trying to install components it looks for
"djtopr1150.exe" and it can not find it. I looked this up and it seems to be
some sort of hijacker file. I am wondering if not finding this file is
causing my keyboard and mouse to fail.

:
Search for those files on the drive, document where they were located,
and delete them.

It certainly is a possibility.
