Lost Internet Options in Control Panel

Win XP HE, SP1

Hi,
I have lost the icon "Internet Options" in my control panel.
Can't figure out why.
How do I recover it/have it appear there again?

Hi,

Click start/run, type:

control inetcpl.cpl

Then click ok. Does Internet Options appear or not (error message)? If not,
either the file is damaged or missing and a new one needs to be expanded
from the I386 folder on the CD or hard drive (on preinstalled systems). If
it does, then perhaps it was hidden with TweakUI or a group policy (check
with the network administrator if this is your employer's computer).

Properties?

inetcpl.cpl should be in
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

TweakUI and, if XP Pro, Group Policy can hide Control Panel icons.

Hi Rick,
Tx for ur reply.
I ran the command and it did come up but the icon is still not back in
control panel.
I do remember installing TweakUI at once time and uninstalling it as i
did not need it.
(This is on my laptop running Win XP and no corporate servers so no
network administrator.)
What do u suggest?

Editor...

Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Do you see inetcpl.cpl listed in the right hand pane?

Navigate to >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowCpl

Do you see inetcpl.cpl listed in the right hand pane?

Navigate to >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\RestrictCpl

Do you see inetcpl.cpl listed in the right hand pane?

You can right click inetcpl.cpl, if it is listed in any of the keys, select
Delete and answer Yes to the prompt.

Have you checked the registry keys mentioned by Wesley, and have you
verified that the file inetcpl.cpl is in the \system32 directory?

He gave you one option. Run TweakUI, look on the control panel section,
and enable the internet control panel option.

Yes I do see the inetcpl.cpl in the right hand pane along with
inetcpll.cpl, ncpa.cpl (No as Value), netcpl.cpl, odbccp32.cpl (No as
value).
deleted key.
Nothing under Policies.
AND....it's back. Tx!
What about the other .cpl's I mention above? Leave as is?

inetcpll.cpl = I have no idea what this is. It looks like a typo. Does
inetcpll.cpl exist on your machine?

ncpa.cpl = Network Connections. Can be accessed from Start\All
Programs\Accessories\Communications\Network Connections

netcpl.cpl = Windows 95, 98 and ME Network properties. This is *not* a
valid Windows XP file. If netcpl.cpl exists on your machine, it may be part
of a virus.

odbccp32.cpl = Microsoft Data Access - ODBC Control Panel. If you don't use
it, I don't, don't worry about this one. Part of Administrative Tools.
