Lost Install disk

i have a Win 2K SP3 system which needs to have the OS repaired. Many options
do not respond. My problem is that the system has an OEM version of the OS
installed and we are unable to locate the original disk. How can I repair /
reload the OS with another install disk and not loose the data / programs on
the disk?

Others may have suggestions on repairing techniques.

But even if you had to completely replace the OS in-place, your DATA should
be retained, as long as it is outside of the "documents and file settings"
directory structure. Anything that was inside "documents and settings" such
as "my documents" and "desktop" will be blown away during the OS replacement.
This is why on my servers, I always keep data on a separate non-system
partition.

Programs on the other hand would have to be re-installed after an in-place
OS replacement.

- Back up your data to a different medium.
- Borrow a CD from a friend and make a copy.
