Lost Icon Image Properties

Had no problems with my computer until yesterday...all of my program icons
have lost their properties (no program specific images). I 'right-click' on
properties for the individual icon to try and change the icon, the image is
there, but it won't apply. I've tried TweakUI to rebuild the icon cache and
it only repairs the Window icons...MS Office or any other program I have
installed do not have its program image despite what the properties state.

Can't think of what else to do and have way too much to try and remove/add
all the programs back. System Restore does nothing. Need any help!

Deleting the iconcache.db might help. iconcache.db is a hidden file present here (Type the path in
Start/Run): %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data

Is the problem seen for Namespace icons or for all the executable files? If for the latter, verify here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\DefaultIcon

Click Start/Run and type REGEDIT

In the above location, set the (default) value to "%1" (without " )

Tried it...nothing happened.

Was already set to this. The extensions all have retained their properities.
When transferring onto the desktop (those that have the image) they turn
blank when put onto the desktop. All other files remain blank as well.

Problems with icon images seem to be limited to those seen on the desktop and
on the "Start" "Program" menu. Can't be reset. Going through the individual
folders, the icon image properties are there for all the programs and
extensions. Any idea on how to reset the desktop and "Start -->Program"
icons?
