lost administrator password

i have a portable that the user lost the administrator
password for the local machine and also his personal
password
how can we modify the password?? to be able to log in
i heard about DSMODE new command for XP and Windows 2003
server.
but i can't log in either by safe mode and recovery
console mode
i have even tried to use last not good.
no luck!!
i have downloaded a iso image for cd with linux kernel and
it changes the username's password even for administrator
password.
but it tells me that all the accounts are locked. and it
will tried to unlock them and also chnage the password.
but it didn't work either.

my only solution that i haven't tried was to boot with a
NTFS boot disk and go to \windows\system32\config and
change the password with DSMODE command

Sorry I can't help but I have a similar problem where I
can access my user account but not my Admin account. I
loaded SP2.

One solution is to logon using a domain administrator
account if laptop was made a member of a domain.

Another thing you could try is the run as administrator
command if you can get in as any user at a command prompt
or remotely.
