Loss of Windows security features

Dear all,
My Windows Firewall dissapeared a couple of days ago and wont come back.
Clicking on the icon in Security Centre produces nothing but a short
unhelpful message.
I tried to fix this by using the repair function of my Windows XP(home) CD
but this has only made things worse !
Now the whole of Security Centre is unusable, it just contains a message
asking me to restart in order to access Security Centre. Needless to say this
does not work.

Is this likely to be caused by a Virus or Trojan or am I doing something
wrong ?

restart computer, press F8 go to safe mode and restore your computer.probably
a week before problem started. try this first
