Loss of emails following XP reinstallation?

I reinstalled XP pro over XP home. Following installation, all my old emails were missing. Are they gone forever?

I remember there was an option of XP reinstallation that enabled you to go back to your old computer state before installation. I remember there option required a bit of disk space, so it's my hope that my old information can still be retrieved. I have some important files attached to some important emails that I really would like to get back

Also, prior to reinstallation, I backed up the My Documents folder, if that's any help. I looked in the Local Settings folder for dbx files as some of the techs have recommended but couldn't find anything.

I really hope there's a way to get those old emails. If not, Microsoft should present a notice during windows reinstallation saying that all your old important files are going to be wiped away, which shouldn't be the case if your just reinstalling an operating system, right?

And your lost emails were in which Mail Client...? You'd think posters here
would state which one, right? <w>

Sorry, I realized i forgot to mention it afterwards, but I couldn't find my thread because there's some delay in posting/appearing

I was using Outlook Express. Following reinstallation, outlook express was empty. So I installed Outlook 2003. Hmm.

Thoughts??????????????????????
