Losing System Restore Points after a few days

Hi

I own a Dell Dimension 8200 256 Mb Ram running Xp Sp1. I
have a 55Gb HD with the System restore memory set to
maximum. About 10 months ago I had to refresh XP because
of problems with an antivirus program. Since then System
retore points will not stay on the system for more than
two or three days.

The system will automatically make restore points, I can
make restore points. All of these will be visible from
the calendar in the System restore dialog but after a
period of a few days they disappear.

I have Real Player installed and someone suggested that
there was a problem with RP wiping SR points. I
uninstalled RP and it has made no difference.

Can anyone suggest a remedy for this?

Hi

You may have to increase the amount of hard disk space allocated to System Restore:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Highlight the appropriate drive and then click on 'Settings...'. Adjust the slider on the resultant screen to the right to increase the hard disk space allocated to SR. I have allocated SR 500 Mb here, which gives me 6/7 checkpoints.

Have you checked to see how much disc space is alocated
to save the Systen Restore points too?
If it's too small, it will delete the oldest setting to
make room for a new save point.

My sys restore is set to maximum. On my machine this is
shown as 12% or 6864 Mb. The problem is that no matter
how many restore points I have after two or three days
ALL of them disappear -- not the oldest one or two!
