Loosing network connection

T

Tom

Periodically I lose my network connection within Vista Ultimate (only since
SP1). I tether my cell phone to my laptop PC. The cellular connections
remains ON using 3G network. The connection drops for maybe 45 seconds and I
can hear the laptop hard drive churning away. Based on another discussion I
unchecked the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) but that has not solved
the issue.

Same issue happens to me.

So far, the only answer I got from the experts is "Update you DSL router"...
bad deal...

I think Vista will be my last Microsoft OS... this is realy anoying..

That might work, except in my case, I have no DSL router as I'm connecting
right into cellular 3G network

Updated info: Since the Windows Updates Tuesday, the problem has gotten
worse at least by a factor of 5 times more frequent disconnects. Seems to be
a serious issue here that is not being addressed after reading other postings.

I don't know what device is used by your G3 connection, but using Device
Manager to uninstall that device, and then 'Scan for Hardware Changes' to
find it again, may make that connection work again.
The Properties of the device may also show a Power Management tab, that you
can use to disable turning off the device.

I'm tethering over USB cable to my ATT 8525 cell phone/pocket PC to my
laptop, using Internet Sharing on the cell. The cell has no power management
tab. Disconnecting the cable and reconnecting or just waiting a few minutes
and trying to connect usually works. However, the cell carriet (ATT) verifies
that the actual 3G Internet data connection is NOT lost, it just disappears
from the laptop.

I checked the four or five USB Root Hubs in Device Manager and NONE had the
"turn off" option checked. Still having the problem.
