Looking for all-in-one backup solution.

Hi, I'm looking for some software, and some recommendations.

I need some backup software that can deal with Ouulook Express, Various
files within "Documents and Settings" (not the protected ones, but I'd like
it to copy the whole of D & S, and not throw up errors for the protected
files) and other files that I tell the program to back up (settings from FTP
programs, chat programs, etc), and also to be able to schedule backups.

I've done a search around Google, and there is a plethora to choose from,
but I am kind of hoping someone out there has used and can recommend some
software to do as I require.

I'd prefer freeware, but as it would possibly be "worth while" software I'd
be happy to pay, but obvsiouly not stupid amounts of money.

I hope someone can help with on this matter..

Regards.
Paul.

What about NTBackup, which comes in WinXP ? It's installed by default in
Pro; can be installed from your media or via download in Home. You can
schedule it to run via task scheduler.

I like SecondCopy from www.centered.com. Not free, but only $30 or so
for up to 4 users. I see they have a new version out, too.

Acronis True Image 9.0

http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

Acronis True Image 9.0 provides you two backup options in one software:

1) Our original disk imaging backup option which enables you to create an
image of your entire hard disk drive, including the operating system,
applications, user settings, and all data. Use the image to restore your PC
to a known working state without any reinstallation.

2) A new file-based backup option which enables you to backup and restore
individual files and folders, like your My Documents folder or a specific
file, like your latest tax return. A software wizard walks you through all of
the steps.

Acronis True Image 9.0 now includes the disk cloning and disk deployment
capabilities. If your hard drive is full, Acronis True Image will help you to
quickly and easily deploy a new hard disk on your PC — migrating all data,
operating systems, programs, software patches and updates, configuration
files, preferences, e-mail and everything else automatically!

Clone an old hard disk drive to a new one

Install new hard disk drive as a boot disk or as an additional storage device

Re-deploy old hard disk

Resize transferred partitions to match new hard disk size*

Create, copy, move, and delete partitions

Securely clean and wipe old hard disk

It isn't free but well worth the money

To the OP:
I use ABF outlook express backup, works flawlessly for backup or to
transfer OE files between computers.
I also use Casper for a complete backup from one hard drive to another
internal or external hard drive. After the first use, it usually takes
less than 5 minutes for a complete backup update - and I can instantly
change between my active drive and the backup drive via the bios in
seconds.
HTH, I have no relationship with either of the companies other than as
a satisfied user.

You can't go wrong with Acronis True Image 9. It's a really great backup
system and will do what you require and much more. Check it out.
Unfortunately it's not freeware, but isn't that expensive either and as far
as I'm concerned, is a must-have.

Cheers.
