longer file name not accessible

Windows XP Pro SP2 NTFS Max file name/path lenght allowed 255/260.

Seems to be a bug.
For excample I have a mp3 file with total path/file name lenghts of 180
characters.
When I add 17 chracters to the path (folder name) where the file is (now
total 197) the file isn't accessible anymore.
Doubleclick to the file name doesn't launch media palyer, either I can't
delete this file anymore.

any ideas?

Thnaks Unk, for the url list.
Deleting file itself isn't the problem.
I can delete the file just shortening the folder name.
But IMO max path allowed is longer then 197 ...
Therefore I think it's a Win XP file system bug and I thought maybe someone
knows how to fix it before it causes more harm.

With XP SP1, [[The system PATH environment variable is limited to 1023
characters, plus the terminating null character, for a total of 1024
characters.]]

With XP SP2 [[the PATH environment variable limit is increased to 2,048
characters.]]

That includes the file name.

Windows XP cannot find a program's executable files or DLL files
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832978

[[Many Windows programs expect the maximum path length to be shorter than
255 characters. Therefore, these programs only allocate enough internal
storage to handle these typical paths. NTFS does not have this limit and it
can hold much longer paths.]]
