Logon User Interface DLL Error

A

Artie

I was in the process of loading Checkpoint VPN-1
SecuRemote/SecureClient software. The process froze my
computer. When I restarted the computer I now get the
following error - Logon User Interface DLL ckpginashim.dll
failed to load Contact System Administrator to replace the
dll or restore orginal dll. How can I remove the
reference to ckpginashim.dll from the startup of the
computer to prevent this error?

Fixed this problem

Hiya,

Not much on this problem on good old Google, so having fixed it, I thought I'd post my solution here to help the world with the same problem.

I encountered the issue above when trying to remove Checkpoint VPN that a client had provided to me so I could connect to their network remotely.

I decided to remove this piece of software as I was in a hotel last night and could not connect to their unsecured wireless network. Well, I could connect, but there seemed to be an issue with name resolution and as soon as I unticked the Checkpoint driver in the Network Connections Wireless Connection, I could suddenly connect and use the hotel's wireless network....very odd.

So, got back to the office the next day and decided to uninstall this piece of software...rebooted.....hey presto, the good old ckpginashim.dll error message above...no choice but to reboot.

Couldn't even boot into Safe Mode......

Found what I could do was boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Opened regedit.exe from the command line box

Navigated to

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

replaced the entry of ckpginashim.dll with msgina.dll

rebooted

Hey presto, everything works......

Hooray for me !

Hope this helps some people in the future, I had to work it out the hard way.

Mind you, I'd quite like Checkpoint's uninstall routine to work properly in the first place

Have fun
