logon to a Unix share

I replaced a PC that used to be able to key in \\(the ip address) of the Unix
server at the Run line. A window would come up requiring the user to logon
as root. Since the PC was replaced the user now gets the error, "\\(the ip
address) is not accessible. The account is not authorized to log in from
this station".

My PC allows me to log on to the server so I have been comparing settings
but have not been able to find anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The Unix platform needs Samba loaded to share a folder for NetBIOS over IP communications.
