Logon Screen

Steve

Anyone know how to turn off the login screen (welcome
screen) that first comes up when you boot into windowsXP?

I just installed xp for a new computer and it only has the
administrator as a user. It won't go right into the
desktop, but insists that I login. The password is blank.

I know that on my original computer, I don't have this
problem. It just goes straight to the desktop.

Thanks,

Steve.

Is this XP Home or XP Pro?
When you say it only has the administrator as a user
do you mean an account with a user's name that is
a Computer administrator type or an actual account
named Administrator?
Both XP Home and XP Pro include a built in
Administrator account and a built in Guest account.
In XP Home you can only log in as the built in
Administrator account when you boot to safe mode.
It is not a good idea to routinely operate as the built
in Administrator account in XP Home or Pro but rather
to create your own account that is a Computer Administrator type.

If you go to Control Panel | User Accounts and there is
only one user account listed there that is a Computer administrator
type (and not password protected) and the Guest account -
then under "Pick a task" click on "Change the way users log on or off"
then uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" and click on "Apply Options".
On the next reboot, you should be booting straight to just the desktop.
Of course this is not a secure way of operating but that's up to you.
