Logon problem

I reinstalled W2K Pro (NOT on a newly formatted c: drive). Before
getting to the Desktop, there is a long delay. A dialog box titled "Log
On to Windows" appears. In it, "User name: administrator" and "Password"
are grayed out, and there is no entry in the Password box.

If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, after a delay of a minute or two Task Manager
appears and shows that I am logged on as CLONE/Administrator (CLONE is
the name I chose for my homebuilt computer). If I then click on Log Off,
booting proceeds and the computer tries to log me back in as
Administrator, asking for a password. I simply press Enter, then I'm
finally taken to the Desktop.

If I go to Control Panel/User and Passwords, the "Users must enter a
user name and password to use this computer" box is NOT checked. In the
"Users for the computer box", there are three entry for User Name and
Group:

Administrator/Administrators
Any Body/Administrators
Guest/Guests

(Any Body is the name I use when installing Windows.)

Any ideas for eliminating these logon delays?

Thanks,

Ray

It sounds as if Windows is attempting to contact a domain controller,
probably from your previous installation. Make sure that you are in
"Workgroup" mode. You should also disable the automatic logon mode while
testing.

Maybe all my computer needed was a good night's sleep. When I booted up
this morning, the original problem no longer existed and logon was fast.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
