Help!

Earlier this week my HD for my domain server crashed...on
startup BIOS refused to recognize it so I installed
another HD and loaded W2kAS from scratch. For some
reason this is ther error message I get when trying to
log onto the server from my client.

"The system cannot log you on now because the domain is
not available."

This is strange as I have an account on the domain and am
also in the Administrator" group and joined the client to
the domain just prior to trying to logon under the domain
account.

Ideas as to why the "...Domain is not available?"

Am running SP4. DC is also GC, Schema, and DNS authority.

Bill,

One of the reasons that you might be seeing these errors would if be if the
DC that failed was the only DC in the domain. When you reinstalled the DC
from scratch, you essentially created a new domain with the same name.
However, even though the domain name is the same, the domain sid will be
different. This would not allow the old computers and user to find the
domain controller even if the DC had the same computer name.

If this is your scenario, you will have to move each of the computers out of
the old domain and into your new domain.

Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks.
