Login takes 20 minutes

I have several machines at random times and in random locations. That take up to 20 minutes to boot. It always get stuck at applying security settings. These are all windows 2000 machines on an NT 4.0 Domain. Also when I go to look at the security policies on the local machine it is corrupt. Any thoughts on how to fix this? If I let the machines sit they will eventually go to login screen and work fine but, the next time I reboot it is the same thing.
