login problems: windows xp

i recently had a virus on my computer. i managed to delete it, but now i am
unable to log in. after windows xp presents you with the log in screen and i
click on the appropriate user name (there is only one user), windows xp
proceeds to load, but logs off seconds after and returns me to the log in
screen once again.

i don't know what the problem is. i thought that maybe some startup files
was somehow deleted when i removed the virus.

any help would be gretaly appreciated in isolating this problem. thank you.

: I am enmeshed in the same problem. Don't know what caused
it. Symptoms same for all users.
