Login Problem Explorer.exe not running

About 3 weeks ago I had a issue hit random PCs in the office. When they login
they get a blank desktop. You can do CRTL-Alt-Del to get task manager and you
can run explorer and desktop comes up.

It is happening on random PCs and laptops. Doens;t seemed to be tied to a a
update as pretty much all PC/laptops run similar software. Not related to
spyware already checked that and most users are not setup as admins.

not related to the domain as it happens when you login in locally on the
computer with the admin account.

At first thought it was a DNS problem but have elminated that as it happens
randomly but it stays with the PCS that it has happened to. Not like new
people are having that problem. seems to happen after you turn off your PC to
long period of time.

To verify that the shell is correctly set, click Start, Run and enter
REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

The Shell value in the right pane should read Explorer.exe. If not, double
click it to change it. Malware can hijack this value for its own purposes.

Yes it is...i don't think its a malware issue for a change.

The problem troubleshooting it is once it logs in it works fine for that
day, you can reboot, shutdown etc...but if you wait till the next day and
boot up. That's when it hits you. so I have to try something then wait till
the next day.

Is their any app to monitor you startup process?
