I've done a bad thing. I have a Win2000 stand-alone
desktop machine that has been in storage for 6 months.
When I got it out today and set up...you guessed, I don't
remember the administrative password to login to the
machine. Could anyoue please help? I will certainly be
greatful.

Embarassed and begging for mercy,
Craig Hale

Hi Craig,

Thank you for the posting. As you indicated you forgot the administrator
password of Windows 2000.

First, please check if you can use other user account to log into the
Windows 2000 computer. If you can use other user account to log in, you
can reset the administrator password after log in.

If you are unable to log in to any user account, you need to parallel
install Windows 2000 and then take ownership of the files and folders of
the previous one.

For more information, please refer to:

Please let me know if this helps and answers your question. If anything is
unclear, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Cherry Qian

Don't know if its worth the effort but..............if
worse comes to worse, you could try lophtcrack.(A password
cracking program) I haven't used it in a couple of years,
(on NT4..may work on 2000) but from what I remember, you
boot with ntfsdos, get the sam_ file from the repair
directory of the box in question, move the file to a
different machine and then apply lophtcrack. The eval
version of this program used to be availble on the web for
free, but I've heard that may not still be the case...

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your posting. I understand your concern.

After a parallel install, you will need to reinstall all your other
software as well so that they can function correctly. As for the old files
and folders, you can still gain access to them. That means we can ensure
no any data lose. If you received "Accesss is denied"error message, you can
just take owership of the files and folders.

Hope this helps and answers your question. If anything is unclear, please
let me know.

Sincerely,

Cherry Qian
