I changed my windows 2000 network account from a domain
to a workgroup. Now I cannot login as it says my domain
may be wrong. How do I log on to a workgroup ?

You are now limited to logging in to the computer with a local user
account. By default, that would be only the administrator account. There is
a guest account, but is disabled by default. Do you know the administrator
password?

With the correct username and password. If you don't know what these are you
need to speak to the network administrators who configured your computer.

By removing the machine from its domain, you have removed the ability to log
into it with a domain account. You must log in with a local account.

The only people who can join your machine back to the domain are your
network administrators. It is not possible for you to do it yourself.

A workgroup has no facility for "logging on" since workgroups do not contain
user accounts.

Then why is it asking me to log in ? Is there some way
to bypass the login screen ?

You can login. However, you have to login as a local user account. That
leaves only the user name administrator (assuming it wasn't renamed and
no other local accounts were created).

It is asking you to log in using either an account defined on the local
computer, or an account defined on a domain. Since you've destroyed the
link to the domain by moving the machine out of the domain, your only option
is to log in with a locally-defined account.

By default, this account is created on every computer and is called
"administrator". It's always worth trying to log in with a blank password
in cases like this (just in case your system administrators are dumb).

At some stage, you will need to ask your network guys very nicely to join
you back to the domain, so rather than risk further damage to your machine,
it's best to go straight to them and tell them what you've done.

User name - administrator
Password - you can either guess or find out from the person that setup
the computer
