log on

When I log on to my computer it stops at the Log on to windows screen and freezes until I click ok. In the log on to windows box there is the administration in the username box and a password in the password box. Both are faded and I cant click on them. There is a message that says: The system could not log you on. Make sure username make and domain are correct and type password again.

When I click ok on this I get to the log on screen with our names o it. How can I by-pass this or change this.

Hi Kevin,

It appears that an incorrect password/domain name has been entered by someone, which causes XP to authenticate the username/password a couple (or more) times and freeze at the Welcome Screen. Once you login, type this command in RUN box to clear the auto-logon setting.

rundll32 netplwiz.dll,ClearAutoLogon

-or-

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Enable "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and click Ok.
