For the operating system option, right click "My Computer", choose
"Properties", click the "Advanced" tab, click "Start up and Recovery".

Under "Default operating system":

Select the OS of your choice and time display for operating systems..

I do not see a response to tom d's first question, about "unable to set
talkback system hook". For me, the message occurs when I log onto a
restricted account but not when I log onto an administrative account.

Does anyone have any information about this message?

Thanks, Rock. Those links are very helpful. The confirmed my suspicion that
the problem is caused by SBC Yahoo DSL's new "self-help facility". I
originally removed that facililty but the "talkback hook" message continues.
SBC Yahoo DSL's customer support team was clueless the last time I asked and
most posters on the Google group were also clueless although two suggested
going to msconfig's startup tab and unchecking tgcmd and/or tgcmdprovidersbc.
I will try that. The message, by the way, has nothing to do with the display
monitor.

OK, I ran msconfig, unchecked tgcmd in the startup list, and the "unable to
set talkback hook" message no longer occurs when I log onto a restricted
account. However I now get a warning message that I am in selective startup
mode every time I log onto an account. If I return to normal startup mode,
the checkmark reappears on tgcmd and the "unable to set talkback hook"
message returns. So, I have demonstrated that tgcmd is the cause of the
message but I can't make it go away without being in selective startup mode.

Does anyone know a way to disable tgcmd other than by going to SBC YAHOO DSL
and asking how to get rid of tgcmd?

Leave tgcmd disabled and keep Selective Mode. When you get the warning
dialog box from the System Configuration Utility, look at it more
carefully. In the lower left corner there is a box you can check that
basically says, "don't bother me about this any more". Check it and OK.

OK. Unchecking the "don't repeat this message" box on the System Config
Utility dialog box did the job. I also verified that the dialog box will
reappear when I make some other change.

Thanks again for the advice.

I still plan to pester SBC DSL Yahoo about a proper fix.
