Lockup with MS Wireless Multimedia Keyboard

D

Dave Parsons

Hi

I have just rebuilt my system with an Asus A7V600 mobo, Athlon XP2600+
processor and am now getting lockups on boot with Windows XP Pro SP1a

I have re-installed Windows after the change in components and used another
MS Wireless Desktop keyboard and mouse with no problems. Swapped to the MS
Wireless Multimedia keyboard and mouse and problems start occurring. Both
are connected to PS2 connectors.

1. BIOS screens keyboard works.
2. XP Welcome screen, mouse works OK, type something and no characters
echoed and mouse freezes. System can still be powered down through main
power switch.
3. Can't boot to Safe Mode as pressing F8 causes the system to lockup.
4. Tried to re-install, and at first text screen in setup, keyboard locks.

I have swapped other keyboards both cabled and wirleess and only the
Wireless Multimedia keyboard shows the problem. The keyboard work fine on
other PCs, and indeed I am using it now to type this!

The BIOS is 1005, and all critical patches have been added to Windows XP.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

Well I've just been rearranging the office and have stuck my MS wireless
keyboard on my A7V600 and am getting EXACTLY the same problem !?!

Can't find any reasons why - hence I'm trawling usenet!

One thing that I will say is that I built an identical system a couple
of weeks ago for a friend and she hasn't reported any probs when she
connected up her MS wireless keyboard (I hadn't tested it with this) so
as I would have built it up in the same way with the same components....
I'm a bit stumped, but it can't be a coincidence that my and Dave's
system do the same.
Her keyboard would have been newer than mine though!?!

Its just bizarre! As soon as you hit a key on the keyboard, the mouse
just stops working (and neither does the keyboard)

Anybody?

Dave - did you sort it??

TIA

Me, me, me (me too!)

Well folks, its me replying to my post - but for any poor unfortunate
bastard who has the same problem, I can't explain it (nor can Asus at
the moment), but I've discovered that if you connect the mouse via USB
and NOT by the obvious and logical PS2 connector - it works
Go figure!
