lock desktop icons

Hi. I run a lab for students. All remote computers are running WinXP pro
and the server is running Win2000server w/ active directory. I'm using
roaming profiles. My problem is that some students mess with the icons on
the desktop, renaming them, moving them, deleting them, etc. None of the
permissions in active directory (including "save settings on exit") can seem
to reset the desktop or prohibit the action in the first place. I've
searched the web and only found a little program (easy desktop helper) that
supposedly does this. What I want to do is prevent any changes to the
desktop (and taskbar), if possible.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
M

Thanks for the reply. The problem with mandatory profiles is this - the
kids save documents in the "My Documents" folder and any changes, etc. that
they made would not be saved. I know I could use folder redirection but I'd
like to not have to do that - you can't imagine how much trouble it can be
to get the kids to follow some of the instructions. For example, there are
folders for each class in "My Documents," 1A, 1B, etc. to make it easier to
find their documents next time. It's March now and we still have a large
number of kids who have trouble with "OK, go to File, Save and open the 3C
folder ..."

Thanks,
M
